Wood and Sons, Ltd, was originally founded as "Wood & Son" in 1865 by Absalom Wood and his son Thomas Francis Wood.  They were a renowned English pottery manufacturer, known for producing high-quality earthenware, based in Burslem, Staffordshire.  Around 1907 it became "Wood & Sons".  A few years later, in 1910, it was incorporated as "Wood & Sons, Ltd". Thomas Wood, continued to acquire additional pottery factories.  In 1921 Harry F. Wood succeeded his father, as chairman and the company became a prolific and successful pottery manufacturer.  The company went public in 1954 as "Wood & Sons Holdings, Ltd" (Wood and Sons Ltd continued as the main operating company).  Wood & Sons were chosen to exhibit at the 1951 "Festival of Great Britain".  Unfortunately in the 1970's, the company was weakened financially by fighting several unsuccessful takeover bids and the bank took control of the business.  In 1982 the business was purchased by Edmund Yorke, who continued to use the name Wood & Sons, Ltd., from 1982 until the factory closed in 1995.
